Hilltop Sanctuaries in the North of Portugal

Another series of photos from Portugal. My previous posts from Portugal are: Porto Food Market and Atlantic Coast of Portugal. This time we're heading to the North of Portugal where I visited a couple of hilltop sanctuaries.

The drive from Porto to Braga was stunning, surrounded by mountains. The scenery and architecture were nothing like I've seen before. Bom Jesus de Monte is a sanctuary I visited in Tenões, outside the city of Braga, in northern Portugal. The name means Good Jesus of the Mount. Pictured here is the stairway Via Sacra.

The Bom Jesus de Monte Sanctuary is full of wonderful buildings and manicured gardens. It is a great place to get lost in and explore with its forest trails and grottoes. The views from this mountain top are as spectacular and I reserved those for another post.

The other place we visited that day was the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro, it is only 2 km away from Bom Jesus. This spot is just as wonderful with great buildings, nature and breathtaking views.
